Towards Cooktown II

In der Nacht hab ich schlecht geschlafen. Einerseits, weil ich zu viel ferngesehen habe, unter Anderem einen alten Piratenfilm, und dann hab ich noch lange wach gelegen, überlegt, wie die Reise weiter gehen soll.

That night I slept badly. On the one hand, because I've watched too much TV, among other things, an old pirate movie, and then I have long a situated awake, thinking about how the journey to go on.

Irgendwann bin ich eingeschlafen. Hab wirres Zeug geträumt, von fremden Häfen, Schiffen und einem Sturm.

 At late time I fell asleep. Dreamed confused, from foreign ports, ships and a storm.

Das Tageslicht fiel schon zwischen den Vorhängen durch, als ich von einer lauten Stimme geweckt wurde: "Steh auf, Mann! Du sollst zum Käptn kommen ... sofort!"

The daylight shines already between the curtains, when I was awakened by a loud voice: "Stand up, man thou shalt come to the Captain ... immediately!"

Ich war irritiert, stand auf, zog die Vorhänge auf, vor mit lag der unendliche Ocean. Ich zog mir meine Jacke über und ging aus dem Zimmer ... stand auf dem Deck eines Schoners.

I was irritated, stood up, opened the curtains, in front of was the endless Ocean. I pulled on my jacket and left the room ... standing on the deck of a schooner.

Ich rieb mir die Augen. dann hörte ich eine andere Stimme rufen, noch lauter und in einem tiefen Bass: "Wo, bei allen Höllenhunden, bleibt der Maat?"

I rubbed my eyes. Then I heard another voice, louder and in a deep bass: "Where, by all the hounds of the hell, is the officer?" 

Jemand griff mich am Ärmel, schleifte mich quer über Deck, stiess eine Tür auf und schubste mich in eine grosse Kajüte.

Someone takes my sleeve, dragged me across the deck, joining a door and pushed me in a large cabin.

Vor mir stand, niemand anders als Käptn Cook persönlich und aus seinen Mundwinkel kamen kleine Spuckeblasen. Cook kochte vor Wut.

I front of me stood, none other than Captain Cook personally and from his mouth came little blatters of spittle. Cook was fuming.

"FOFTAIN!!" .... brüllte er. "Lass er mir diesen verdammten Schiffszimmermann auspeitschen, ich will bei Flut in See stechen und der Mastbaum ist immer noch nicht repariert"

"Fofftein !!" .... He bellowed. "He let give order to flogg this damn ship's carpenter, I will at high tide  set sails and mast is still not repaired"

Er schlug mit den Fingerknöcheln auf den Tisch vor Wut ... klopf ... klopf ... klopf

He banged his knuckles on the table in anger ... knock ... knock ... knock

knock ... knock ...

ROOMSERVICE .... hello!!???

Scheisse ... ich hatte verschlafen!

Shit ... I overslept!

Meine tatsächliche Reise nach Cooktown verlief irgendwie weniger dramatisch!

My real trip to Cooktown proceeded somehow less dramatic!

Unterwegs im Küstengebirge Richtung Cooktown
Endlich mal wieder Berge und dann noch gleich auf über 1000m ü.NN
... und endlich konnte ich mal die Klimaanlage im Auto ausmachen ...
und die Fenster auf und richtig lüften ... herrlich kühl!

Finally again mountains and about 3000 ft.
... And finally I could even shut off the air conditioning in the car ...
and open the windows and ventilate properly ... nice and cool!

Stundenlang fuhr ich durch so eine Art Dschungel ... üppiges Pflanzenzeugs nach all den Wochen mit sparsamen Sträuchern und Eukalyptus.
For hours through a kind of jungle ... lot of green after the weeks with bushes and eucalyptus.

Ein Pflanzendetail für einen Liebhaber ... und .... nein!! ... keine Artischocke!
For an plant enthusiast ... and NO !!! not an artichoke!

... hier noch die Blätter ... und der aufmerksame Leser sieht oben rechts, dass ich extra an einer Gärtnerei angehalten habe

... zum Ende des Tages, wie immer, ein Coopers ...
... at the end of the day, as usual, a Coopers ...
Seht ihr den Tau auf der Flasche? ... so muss das!!
You see the dew at the bottle? ... thats the way it works!!

... während die Sonne über der Mündung des Endeavour untergeht ...
... while sundown over the mouth of the Endeavour.
